Floor Focus magazine announced the winners of the ninth annual Vision Design Awards on April 6, 2018. Vision Award winners are featured in the April 2018 issue of Floor Focus Magazine.
Architecture and design firms from across North America submitted projects that were judged on innovation and integration of floors with every building space.
Commercial projects are entered into building categories: Education, Hospitality/Retail, Corporate, and Healthcare.
ANF Architects won first place in the Education Category for The Rosa Deal School of Arts at Christian Brothers University in Memphis.
“This project demonstrates a thoughtful and successful approach to space-making, layered with a clear hierarchy of colors and materials. The creative integration of flooring is an extension of the project’s principal design concepts, and the jury especially appreciated the way that the flooring helped to highlight wayfinding throughout the complex.”
• This building is the first step in a planned long-term physical transformation from traditional to modern campus buildings at Christian Brothers University.
• Students enter directly into the light-filled monumental three-story stair that draws them and faculty up to the Arts lounge and provides bold red alcoves against white terrazzo steps and landings.
• Each floor features a bold accent color for wayfinding: the first floor is red, the second is green and the third is teal.
• Various specialized classrooms received material treatments to meet things like acoustic attenuation and specialized power requirements.
