University of Tennessee Fine Arts Phase I

UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE

Located on the northwest corner of the main campus quadrangle, the Fine Arts Building occupies a prominent and highly visible site. The 150,000 SF project, providing teaching and performance spaces, includes both new construction and renovation.

The Ground Floor of the two story building houses the Band Room, Percussion Hall, Choir Rehearsal Hall, teaching and practice rooms, Lecture Halls, Administration as well as the University’s Concert Hall and Theatre. The north end of the building, with a floor level eight feet below the Lobby level, houses the Scene Shop, Prop Storage and the new Acting Classroom with its own building entrance and Lobby. The Second Floor includes Practice Rooms, Classrooms, Studios for 2-D Design, Graphic Design Painting & Drawing as well as Dance and Administration. The Art Studios are oriented to the north to control natural light. An Art Gallery, at the center of the building, is lit from a roof-top light monitor. The exterior materials, primarily brick, cast stone and metal panels, relate to the existing campus buildings in color and detail; banded walls create a unique and distinctive look for the structure.

"While working together on the University of Tennessee at Martin Fine Arts Building, ANF Architects provided architectural services in a thoroughly professional manner; they were responsive to our specific project requirements and worked hard to maintain our project budget and time schedule. We have been very satisfied with ANF’s work on our project."

- Tim Nipp, P.E., Director of Physical Plant Operations, together with Douglas J. Cook, Chair, Department of Visual and Theatre Arts, University of Tennessee at Martin
