Town of Arlington

The park invites gatherings of townsfolk for day and night, organized and impromptu, social and recreational uses, needed a setting with concessions, toilets, and equipment storage. The pavilion is built to affirm the Town of Arlington’s small Historic District and buildings, while inspiring future master plan development.

The wide roof overhangs echo the sun and rain shelters of the local Train Depot, Murray Cotton Gin, and S.Y. Wilson General Store. The design encompasses corrugated textures in dark gray brick soldier coursing and galvanized roofing. Rolling barn doors secure concessions. Raised concrete footing seating for people-watching from inside and outside, as well as loose tables and seats. Tongue and groove cedar siding stained green to echo the fashion of the original Train Depot. Natural columns, trusses, and roof deck visibly continue throughout all areas. Horizontal wood lattice screen the toilet entrances.

The Town Gathering Area is open on 3 sides to attract attention and enhance familiarity of the passersby. The up/down lighting illuminates the pavilions visitors and the structure. At the south end, the pavilion allows for sunshine and visibility from the road and driveway to other park features.
