ST. GEORGE'S INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

The chapel is set in the midst of a wooded, suburban campus, sited by the design team to frame views into the old growth forest for individual congregants. To reinforce its role as a space for spiritual reflection, this chapel is physically separated from the school’s academic and athletic facilities. The interior is designed in rustic simplicity with timber scissor trusses to convey respect for the natural environment and create a background to the unique site. It is patterned in the Episcopal tradition and provides a retreat for students, faculty, and staff.
