Tunica Riverpark

This project is a park on 168 acres of land on the unprotected side of the levee along the Mississippi River in Tunica County, Mississippi. Programming identified three major components of the park project: a harbor, a visitor center building and an interpretive nature experience. The Harbor was dredged out of the existing river bank and provides a floating dock that accommodates large excursion boats as well as smaller private craft. The Visitors Center is a 37,000 SF building with a large lobby, concession area, gift shop, classroom/meeting room and a river/levee museum featuring a Mississippi River stocked aquarium. An observation deck overlooking the river is also a part of the building. The Nature Experience includes nature trails as well as interpretive information about the wetland environment of the river. New interpretive earth features including small levees and earth mounds were built to help describe the historic water levels at this location on the river.
